USD 1,750
By direction of the Right Honourable The Earl of Dalhousie, Governer General
Contemporary half morocco over marbled boards, gilt-lettered and ruled spines, marbled edges, folding map. A highly desirable piece of 19th-century colonial Indian history. Great addition to a collection on the history of India and British Colonial Rule. Definitely the British perspective so bias may be obvious, but a good representation of such a view.
.An important first-hand account of the kingdom of Oudh on the eve of its annexation by the East India Company, written by one of the most experienced British administrators in nineteenth-century India. Sir William Henry Sleeman’s A Journey Through the Kingdom of Oude occupies an unusual position among nineteenth-century accounts of India. It is simultaneously a travel narrative, an administrative survey, a political document and a remarkably detailed portrait of a kingdom only a few years before its disappearance as an independent princely state.
